Within the scope of the digital transformation, the city of Konyaaltu has added new projects to those already implemented. It’s an artificial intelligence system that finds road imperfections, potholes and broken pavement.

Konyaaltu Mayor Semi Esen said the AI system was able to spot a problem in just seven days that would normally take months for officials to spot.

Over the course of a week, city officials toured 39 districts within the district boundaries, including 24 rural and 15 central districts, taking photos of the roads. An AI-implemented system detected all road imperfections, potholes, bumps, and asphalt damage.

Esen pointed out that their main goal is to respond to problems immediately, and that AI can also help determine the need for traffic lights and signs on the road.

“For example, if there is a road where you can turn left, but there is no traffic sign that says you can turn left, the artificial intelligence will tell you that. If you do, you can see holes and spots in rural areas by street address and exact location,” Esen said.

He also said that by uploading a photo after the repair work was completed, the system was updated and the exclamation mark on the online map disappeared, indicating the problem was gone.
