Google DeepMind has announced plans to expand its AI-powered scientific research capabilities with the creation of its first 'automated laboratory' in the UK. The facility, scheduled to open next year, will utilize advanced AI and robotic systems to conduct autonomous experiments and initially focus on developing new superconductor materials and new semiconductor materials for medical imaging technology. The institute's announcement comes as part of a broader partnership between Google's artificial intelligence division, DeepMind, and the UK government.

Under the partnership agreement, British scientists will receive “priority access” to some of the world's most sophisticated AI tools, the UK government said in a statement. This access is expected to accelerate research and innovation across multiple scientific disciplines, putting UK researchers at the forefront of AI-assisted discovery.
