DeSantis promotes video with fake AI photo of Trump hugging Fauci

AI Video & Visuals

Ron DeSantis’s campaign released a new video on social media this week criticizing President Donald Trump for refusing to fire Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, when Trump was still president. bottom. However, if you take a closer look, you may notice something odd about the images used in the video. At least three of his photos are completely fake and were created using artificial intelligence tools that have become incredibly popular this year.

New DeSantis video Twitter on June 5begins with President Trump firing people on the NBC television show The Apprentice. Trump’s catchphrase is “You’re fired,” and viewers of videos on social media show him firing several people.

But the video has since faced questions from many conservatives about Trump’s decision to move into the presidency and retain Anthony Fauci as the country’s public health chief. Fauci has been criticized for recommending a domestic lockdown during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but technically he doesn’t have the authority to lock down anything and can’t advise from a federal perspective. just provided it.

The video included several photos of President Trump literally hugging Fauci, including one that appeared to show the former president kissing Fauci on the head. But those pictures are completely fake.

As you can see below, we’ve circled the fake photos that we believe were created using artificial intelligence software. It’s not immediately clear what software was used, but some of the big names in the space include his Stable Diffusion, DALL-E and Midjourney.

President Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. attacked the DeSantis campaign on Thursday over fake images and tweeted about the incident while making obscene comments about the presidential candidate.

“While Biden is arming the corrupt Justice Department with the intent to imprison President Trump, the liars of Team Tiny D are following the Democrats’ dishonest strategy because, like the rest of the Deep State, they are desperate to stop Trump,” Trump Jr. tweeted. thursday afternoon.

Why would Trump Jr. say DeSantis has a ‘little d’? As Rolling Stone reported, there appears to be a coordinated effort by the Trump campaign to claim that DeSantis has a small penis.

Right-wing commentators also took issue with the fake images in the new ad, arguing that it would somehow discourage support for DeSantis.

“I was 55/45 against Trump/DeSantis, now I am” [sic] 0% for DeSantis,” popular YouTuber Tim Poole tweeted. Thursday. “Using AI imagery to smear Trump is a big deal, DeSantis must deny.”

To be fair, Mr. DeSantis was not the first political operative to use fake images during the presidential election. In April, the Republican National Committee released the first-ever political attack ad made using AI imagery. The ad imagined what would happen in President Joe Biden’s second term, but included a small disclaimer that the image was created using artificial intelligence.

Trump himself has embraced AI-generated images in the past, sharing a fake image of the president kneeling in prayer on Truth Social in March. AI imagery is all the rage, but you don’t necessarily need artificial intelligence to exaggerate the truth. In fact, in 2019, when Trump was still president, the campaign shared an altered image of him slimming down and showing his fingers longer. seriously.

Nothing really new under the sun.
