One of Meta’s advertising partners in China, Beijing-based company GatherOne Inc., has placed about 7,600 ads for mobile applications powered by artificial intelligence in the past few months, the publication said. These apps can transfer a woman’s face onto a nude body or create sexual videos. There is also separate mention of an application developed in China that allows the distribution of material that some users consider to be child pornography.

“Meta’s rules prohibit ads with sexual overtones or apps that purport to expose the individuals depicted. But the TTP’s efforts aimed at holding big tech companies accountable show that companies like Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc. have repeatedly failed to rein in such apps,” the publication writes.

Although Instagram and Facebook are not available in China, they are attractive advertising tools for Chinese companies seeking a global audience.

TTP director Katie Paul said: “Meta appears to be offering free services to one of China’s major advertising partners when it comes to nude advertising.”
