From cutting waitlists for doctor appointments to help businesses boost exports and reduce reduction fraud, it's open today for new challenges inviting civil servants to trial ai Data ideas that can improve government structures and tackle major challenges.
Previous winners proposed using aerial photographs ai To create a detailed map of the surface features of peatlands, we create water-infiltrating lands where dead plants do not completely decompose and form layers of peat. These are important in helping to prevent flooding across the country, prevent flooding, store carbon and retain water to support wildlife. However, many are damaged over time by drainage and erosion.
The plan was to build a detailed context of these functions so that policymakers could see whether the erosion could be stopped and whether efforts to restore the peatlands were successful.
After winning the first data challenge, the technology is currently being used to map the surface features of all peatlands across the UK, and is a result published online as part of the peatland map in England.

Previous rounds of the Civil Service Data Challenge have gathered hundreds of applications from across the government sector, with authorities proposing ideas for using technology to optimize prison space and detect modern slavery.
Applications for the contest are open today and will end on Wednesday, November 5th.
To advance the project, the winners will receive £50,000 in funding and technical support from NTT Data, the technology company that sponsors the event, and will assist from senior civil servants who judge the competition.
