At Google I/O 2023, we’ll finally get to know for the first time how the tech giant plans to bring AI to Google Search.
Generative AI is coming to Google Search soon, with the goal of making search “smarter” and “simpler.”
It starts with an AI block “snapshot” at the top of the page that summarizes search results, providing related links, product overviews, images, and more. AI tries to get data from real users, not just websites.
The results come with the following disclaimer:
Generative AI is experimental

Below AI “snapshots” you’ll see typical Google search results. However, there is also a conversational mode that uses AI to help you refine your results using natural language.
This new search experience is still in its early stages, but Google calls it the “Generated Search Experience” or “SGE.”
SGE (Search Generative Experience) brings the power of generative AI directly to Google Search. A new search experience helps you find and understand information faster. As you search, you’ll get the gist of a topic with an AI-powered overview, hints for further exploration, and a natural way to follow up.
Google Search Generation AI debuts first in Labs, and waitlists start today on Google.com on Google Apps and Chrome. The first testers are expected to be accepted within the next few weeks.
