OpenAI launches DeployCo for enterprise AI deployments

AI For Business

OpenAI has raised over $4 billion in initial funding to create a new organization, DeployCo, the OpenAI Deployment Company, to support the implementation of AI within business operations.

This effort includes the acquisition of Tomoro, a consulting firm that advises businesses on AI integration.

Approximately 150 engineers and professionals from Tomoro will join the newly launched business unit, subject to regulatory approval.

DeployCo aims to embed engineers skilled in advanced AI systems directly into client organizations.

These engineers, called Forward Deployed Engineers, help companies identify AI integration opportunities, reimagine operational practices, and take advantage of AI-driven workflows.

DeployCo operates as a majority-owned extension of OpenAI and maintains close collaboration with OpenAI’s core research, product, and deployment teams.

The creation of DeployCo is supported by 19 investment and consultancy firms.

TPG leads the group, whose partners include Advent, Bain Capital and Brookfield, as well as Goldman Sachs, SoftBank and Warburg Pincus. Industry consultants including Bain & Company, Capgemini and McKinsey & Company are also participating.

Brookfield has confirmed a $500 million investment in the platform, which it plans to leverage across its global operations to develop and deploy AI applications at scale.

Tomoro was founded in 2023 in partnership with OpenAI and has served companies such as Mattel, Red Bull, Tesco, and Virgin Atlantic. The company’s engineers have deployed AI solutions to large enterprises, with a focus on operational integration, governance, and demonstrable business outcomes.

OpenAI reports that more than 1 million companies have used its products and APIs in recent years. The company recognized the need for customized support to move from a pilot AI project to a full-scale implementation.

Through its new division, OpenAI plans to work closely with business leaders to diagnose operational needs, select preferred workflows for AI deployment, design and install production systems, and connect AI models to enterprise data and operations.

DeployCo’s network of investment and consulting partners advises more than 2,000 companies around the world on technology implementation.

According to OpenAI, the partnership will combine the technical expertise of AI researchers with the experience of consultants in organizational transformation.

The transaction to acquire Tomoro remains subject to regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions and is expected to close in the coming months.

“AI is increasingly capable of doing meaningful work within organizations, and the challenge now is to help companies integrate these systems into the infrastructure and workflows that drive their business,” said Dennis Dresser, chief revenue officer at OpenAI.

“DeployCo is designed to help organizations close that gap and turn their AI capabilities into real operational impact.”

In a separate announcement, OpenAI and Microsoft reached an agreement to cap revenue sharing payments at $38 billion, according to a report. informationThis is quoted as saying by a person familiar with the deal.

The reported changes follow a contract renegotiation between the two companies last month. These discussions have enabled OpenAI to partner with additional partners such as Amazon and Google.

The report also said the payout cap could help attract investors as OpenAI considers a possible initial public offering later this year.
