Is the video of the defendant trying to flee the courtroom by jumping toward the ceiling real? No, it’s not. A detection tool flagged the video as potentially AI-generated. Additionally, Lead Stories was unable to find any official reports related to such claims outside of social media posts.
This claim was published in a post (archived here) published on Instagram on March 27, 2026. Also shared in X’s post (archived here) on April 7, 2026. The caption of X’s post read:
He tried to escape in court 😱
Here’s what the video included in the Instagram post looked like at the time of writing:

Visual cues indicate that the video was generated by AI, as the image below highlights. The obvious problem with this video, in addition to its obviously low quality, is that the defendant’s vertical flat-footed jump is highly improbable.

The person on the right, who was previously behind the barricade, is attempting to dissolve the solid barrier and gain access to the defendant.

Law enforcement in the video appears to be acting erratically. One police officer with some kind of weapon in his hand freezes and never uses it, while everyone else stands idly as the defendant squirms to break through the ceiling.

Reverse image searches of screenshots of the video using Google Images (archived here), TinEye (archived here), and Yandex (archived here) returned either social media results or unrelated results, with no reliable evidence that the events depicted in the video actually occurred.
Previously, Lead Stories published a fact check of a similar video of a defendant trying to escape from a courtroom box, demonstrating the popularity of this AI trend.
