Executives from Paramount Global, Fox and other entertainment companies say it’s inevitable that movies and TV shows will be created using artificial intelligence.
“This is going to change the world,” said film and television producer Todd Lieberman. Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers“A year from now, will there be a script written by an AI? Yes.”
Executives spoke Wednesday at a panel at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills. The Writers Guild of America, which represents about 11,500 screenwriters nationwide, went on strike Tuesday calling for higher wages, better working conditions and a curb on AI.
Rob Wade, head of Fox’s entertainment business, said the technology isn’t just for scripts. It will extend to “editing, everything,” he said. “AI will be able to do all these things perfectly.”
Writers are asking studios not to use artificial intelligence to write or rewrite screenplays. They also ask that their work not be used as source material for his AI software or used to train his bot writing. According to the union, the studio rejected their proposal, offering only an annual conference to discuss technology.
“It’s a catalyst,” said Tom Ryan, who heads Paramount’s streaming business. He said it would be useful not only in the creative process, but also in other departments such as engineering and technology.
“This opens up all kinds of exciting possibilities for our team to do things faster and better,” says Ryan.
Falon Fatemi, CEO of Fireside, which connects fans to video programming, said AI software would “definitely take some jobs away”, but it also boosted creativity by making the writer’s job easier. Raise.
“Now everyone can have an idea or a premise for a piece they want to write and have a starting point,” she said.
Fox’s Wade also says there’s always a human “co-pilot” in the writing process.
“You always need an executive to say bad things,” he joked.
