Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district have registered an FIR against a man for allegedly circulating an objectionable AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Authorities say the manipulated video has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage from viewers.

Eta (UP): Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district have registered an FIR against a man for allegedly circulating an “objectionable” AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials said on Saturday.
Police said the video was created using artificial intelligence (AI) to manipulate the prime minister’s image and was later spread on social media.
The video, which purportedly shows a man being assaulted and thrown into water, sparked outrage after it went viral.
Pirua Shaw Sandeep Rana said the video was posted on X on Friday.
During the investigation, the police also found that the video was widely spread by an Instagram handle associated with Sanjay, a resident of Puthiya village within the limits of Pirur police station, the SHO said.
The FIR was registered against Sanjay on the basis of a written complaint filed by sub-inspector Pravesh Rana. Police say screenshots of the viral post and the “original” video have been preserved as evidence.
Circle Police Officer (Sadar) Sankalp Deep Kushwaha said the investigation has been assigned to Pilua police station and action will be taken against those found spreading misleading or objectionable content on social media.
