We believe that AI glasses have the potential to be a truly transformative tool to make technology more accessible to people with cognitive disabilities. In collaboration with the Oscar Mike Foundation, we are using Aria Gen 2, the next generation of research glasses, to improve accessibility, including memory support and spatial awareness. These innovations help people with disabilities live more confidently and independently.
building for everyone
In a co-design workshop with the Oscar Mike Foundation, veterans with memory loss and traumatic brain injury (TBI) explained their daily challenges and how our glasses can help them become more independent. Workshop participants said the Aria Gen 2 glasses could help people remember where they left everyday tasks or forgotten items like keys or phones, refocus on a task if they become distracted, and navigate indoor environments.

Through brainstorming and device testing, we identified three challenges that our AI glasses could help address for patients with memory loss due to traumatic brain injury. It’s about remembering the details of conversations, planning your daily work, and staying present in a given situation by reducing distractions from your mobile device or getting hands-free reminders.
Gathering feedback from veterans
Edward Johnson, a veteran who attended the workshop, said he usually writes things down to remember them. He said being able to retrieve information about what you did that day just by using voice commands makes it easier to recall details quickly.
“I have a lot of resources that I carry around to help me. [in my] “Instead of having multiple resources at hand, [the glasses] You can bottle it all up in one and put it out there. I think it’s wonderful. ”
Elizabeth Smith, a Navy veteran, said she has short-term memory loss and often forgets important things, such as taking medication or attending meetings. She said the accessibility of our AI glasses makes everyone who uses them more inclusive and has the potential to change the lives of people with memory loss.
“It makes you feel human. It just lets you know that you’re just like everyone else in your life, and you don’t often feel that way when you have a disability,” she said.

By working closely with communities affected by memory loss, we are learning how to build solutions that help people coexist with others, manage daily tasks more easily, and remember what matters most.
