As Pakistan shook from the monsoon rains and floods, several videos and images circulating on social media claim to show the destruction in Punjab.
In reality, the claim is false. Videos are created from other locations or using artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.
Claim: The 8-second video shows a car sinking into a large hole in a bridge in Punjab.
fact: The video was recorded in India's illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 26th, not Pakistan's Punjab. As reported by the Indian news outlet, reverse image search confirmed that it depicts the collapse of Tawi Bridge in Jammu FirstPost and NDTV You can see it here and here
Claim: A widely shared clip, which has been viewed over 6 million times, shows a sinkhole where water runs through the Islamabad highway from Lahore after a monsoon rains.
fact: The video is not real. Generated using artificial intelligence (AI). This clip features a watermark from Google's AI video studio “Veo.”
Videos circulating online were created using Google's AI Studio Veo.
Claim: Videos that have been watched more than two million times show that floods wipe out the Sialcott bridge and buses fall into the water.
fact: This video was created using AI tools. Geofact Check To test the clips, we used Hive Moderation, an AI content detection platform. Hive gave a high aggregation score of 82%, making sure that the AI contained generated content.
Hive Moderation discovered that the video was created using AI.
verdict: The virus clip does not show recent flooding in Punjab. One video was from Jammu and the other was generated with artificial intelligence.
