It may be a new year, but most gamers still have a ton of games to play before they can play new ones, as one reader reveals his priorities, from Baldur's Gate 3 to Spider-Man 2.

By the time you read this, it will either be a new year or it will be close to a new year. In any case, have a great 2026!

I'm going to compile a list of interesting games I haven't played since last year and games I plan to clear from my backlog.

It's scary to think how many games I haven't completed or played yet. Thankfully, most were either stupidly cheap or free. Here are six things you should take your time to work on.

backlog

6. Baldur's Gate 3

I think this might be the worst purchase I've ever made. I was captivated by the hype at the time and bought this at near full price, first for my Steam deck, and now have it for Legion Go. It's not a bad game, but the combat just confused me as I had never played a similar title before. You may need to watch some instructional videos to learn the basics. However, it's an important match, so I don't know when I'll have time.

    5.Cyberpunk 2077

I've tried this a few times, and this time on the Switch 2, I was most engrossed in the game, only to get distracted by other games. I really want to like it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. You need to commit and exit or accept that you're not very invested.

      4. The Brave Squire

When I first saw the trailer for this game, I was captivated and bought it almost as soon as it was released. But that's ok. It looks very nice and the gameplay is fine, but I find the stealth elements to be very annoying. If this was a long game, I might cut my losses, but I heard it only lasts a few hours, so I'll try my best to finish.

      3. Resident Evil 7 and Village

I've played these before, and in Village's case twice. I'd love to play Resident Evil 7 again someday, and I wouldn't mind playing both before Resident Evil Requiem comes out. I think Resident Evil 2, especially the remake, is the benchmark for the series, but 7 and Village are both worthy sequels.

        2. Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man and Miles Morales are both games that I really enjoyed, and I also own a Platinum copy of Spider-Man. This means a lot to me. However, I've only played a few hours of the game in Legion Go since purchasing the PC version earlier this year. I don't know why, but I think I probably played too much of the previous game. Must be played consistently over several nights. If you do that, I'm sure you'll be hooked.

          1. Claire Obscur: Expedition 33

I played this very briefly on Legion Go via Game Pass. However, performance natively or via the cloud was inconsistent. So streaming to the Legion Go from my living room via the PXPlay app worked so well that I bought it cheap on Black Friday for the PlayStation 5. I think this will be the next game I play. My very brief first impressions are that the production looks very polished in terms of art design and soundtrack, and the story premise seems interesting, but I've never really played a turn-based game before, so I'm worried about whether it will survive the fairly long runtime.

            My wishlist for 2025

            5. Metroid Prime 4: BEYOND

I've never played the mainline Metroid games, but I enjoyed Metroid Dredd. [Metroid Dread is a mainline entry; it’s the Prime games that’re spin-offs – GC] I'm a bit of a sucker for exclusive platforms when I first get a new console, so my initial plan was to get Metroid Prime 4. However, I'm a little tired of some of the lukewarm reviews. I don't know if you can buy it at full price, but I've seen it on Amazon Marketplace for £30.

              4. Assassin's Creed Shadows

Again, I've never really played this series before, but I was eager to give this a try, especially now that it's on Switch 2. I was planning on getting this with the money I would get for Christmas. However, I think it's okay to wait. It will definitely be cut down significantly in the near future, and it's probably a heavy game so I might wait until later this year.

                3. Dispatch

I have vague memories of Metro's reviews, but it was a game I could pass by. But when I saw it ranked on a list of the best games of 2025, I watched the trailer. I haven't played a lot of point-and-click type games, but I enjoy them when I do, and I really like the look of Dispatch's art style.

                  2. Ghost of Yotei

I played a bit of Ghost Of Tsushima via PS Plus earlier this year and was planning on finishing it, but I had other games to play first and now that my PS Plus subscription has ended, I might splurge on the sequel instead. I haven't played Sony's own third-person action game in a while, but it used to hit close to home. But to be honest, I just got a new TV for free with my Internet/TV package and I want a new game with impressive graphics to test it out with.

                    1. Blue Prince

This game seems to have good reviews, but I like puzzle games, and finding good puzzle games isn't always easy. I might have to try this out before Game Pass runs out. The only small issue is that I've heard that you need to take notes, but frankly I'm not sure how feasible that is when playing in bed.
