Artificial Intelligence Approval, created by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, is a four-course (12 credits) program designed to prepare educators to effectively and ethically integrate AI technologies within educational settings.
“We look forward to providing teachers with AI support,” says Dr. Oliver Doreon, professor at the Education Foundation. “We recognize how this rapidly changing technology is affecting teaching and learning in schools. AI approval helps state teachers learn how to teach about artificial intelligence.”
The AI approval program, pending approval from Millersville, consists of four graduate courses taught by Dr. Oliver Dreon, who participated in developing the program's competency, and Dr. Abdul Ibrahim, an associate professor at the educational facility:
- The fundamentals of artificial intelligence in education
- Education and learning using artificial intelligence
- Ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education
- Guiding and integrating artificial intelligence across the curriculum
Each course is structured to build competencies that are aligned with key approval domains, including the fundamentals and applications of AI, responsible ethical use, education and assessment strategies, student AI literacy, and innovation leadership.
Once completed, candidates will have the knowledge, skills and ethical foundations needed to help AI thrive in an integrated educational environment for humans and society.
