New Delhi: Ethnic Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has been heavily criticized for promoting fake news based on AI-generated videos that misprint Pakistani politicians as saying “our people are sitting in the Indian parliament.” The video was first distributed by BJP IT cell member Rishi Bagree and later amplified by Rijiju on X (formerly Twitter), triggering a widespread repulsion.

Rijiju's post, which implicitly targeted the Indian opposition, was quickly flagged as fake by Alt News fact checker Mohammed Zubair. “Minister of Ethnic Minorities @kirenrijiju will make fake news based on AI-generated video by Pakistan Minister BJP IT Cell Member @rishibagree to target Indian opposition leaders,” Zubair wrote about X and shared evidence confirming AI Origins in the video.

Despite overwhelming evidence of the manipulation, Republic TV performed a report that reflected Rijiju's unfounded claims without independent verification. Their headline said, “Why are Pakistani politicians 'Are our people sitting in the Indian Parliament?' Ask Kiren Rijiju's “failed to acknowledge the nature of the doctors of the video or mention that it was exposed by fact-checkers.

At a time when Congress was dealing with sensitive issues such as national security and “Operation Sindoor,” the spread of such misinformation from sitting ministers has sparked concerns about the credibility of formal communication and the increased use of AI-generated content in political propaganda.

TMC MP Saket Gokhale responded sharply to Rijiju's post, referring to Donald Trump's claim that he brokered a ceasefire in the subcontinent, saying, “To Modi's minister, Pakistani politicians are more reliable than the US president.” Gokhale said, “Maybe that's what he meant by 'our people in the Indian Parliament'. ” he added.

Congress leader Pawan Keira also said, “It appears that Kiren Rijiju is auditioning for Amit Malviya's job. Since yesterday, he has parroted his claims based on AI morphed videos pushed by low-IQ BJP IT cell members.”

Khera went further and controversially led to recent revelation regarding Operation Sindore. He argued that Rijiju's enthusiasm to highlight the fake video that stemmed from an attempt to distract Pakistan before Operation Sindoah and that Rajnassin had admitted to calling for a ceasefire 30 minutes after it began.

He also criticized Rijiju after reposting the same fake video after deleting the original tweet, calling it “pathetic” and questioning the minister's ability to distinguish between actual content. “This kind of zero IQ is only suitable for IT cells and probably also for Modi's cabinets,” Khera said.

At present, neither Rijiju nor Ribublic TV has issued a retraction or clarification despite the continued widespread report and condemnation of the video's manufactured nature.
