Read Mark Zuckerberg's vision for “personal super intelligence”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined his vision for “personal tensions” that predicted a “new era of personal empowerment” on Wednesday.

“I am extremely optimistic that super intelligence will help humanity accelerate the pace of our progress,” Zuckerberg wrote in a letter published on Meta's blog and social media platforms.

“But perhaps even more importantly, superintelligence could launch a new era of personal empowerment with larger institutions to improve the world in the direction people choose,” he said.

“The vision of meta is to bring personal closeness to everyone,” he writes. “We believe in putting this power in people's hands and directing it towards what they cherish in our lives.”

He also spoke about hardware that people expect to use to access AI, saying he believes glasses will become “the main computing device.”

“Personally intimate things that help you know us deeply, understand our goals and achieve them are much more useful,” he added. “Personal devices like glasses that understand our context will become our primary computing device because they can see what we are seeing, hear what we hear and interact with us all day long.”

Meta's “Orion” prototype AI glasses are highly technology and are much more expensive than Ray-Ban AI glasses. Meta is working to make the device more cost-effective.

Meta is bullish in the form factor and has developed and launched several models of AI-powered smart glasses. Its AI Ray-Ban is the most popular. They are also working on developing a more advanced version of AI glasses with integrated displays, showing off a prototype of a technology called “Orion” last year.

If the term “Superintelligence” sounds familiar, it's one of the phrases AI companies used to describe the unmeasured breakthroughs that are commonly defined when AI is more capable or capable than human intelligence. Another similar phrase is “artificial general information” or AGI.

Last month, Zuckerberg announced Meta's Superintelligence Lab. Meta CEO has been actively recruiting established AI talents, including hiring AI founder Alexandr Wang to lead the new lab and providing amazing offers to top engineers in Openai, Apple and other AI companies.

Over the past few months, we have begun to give a glimpse of how our AI systems are improving. The improvements are slow so far, but I can't deny it. Now, the development of super intelligence is in sight.

It is clear that in the coming years, AI will improve all existing systems, allowing for the creation and discovery of new things that are unthinkable today. But that's an unresolved question of what we're going to oversee.

In a sense, this is a new era for humanity, but for others it is merely a continuation of historical trends. Recently 200 years ago, 90% of people were farmers who were growing food to survive. Advances in technology have steadily freed much of humanity, focusing on self-sufficiency and more on our chosen pursuits. At each step, people use our new productivity to achieve more than ever, boost the frontier of science and health, and spend more time enjoying creativity, culture, relationships and life.

I am extremely optimistic that humanity will help accelerate our pace of progress. But perhaps even more important, Superintelligence could begin a new era of personal empowerment with larger institutions to improve the world in the direction people choose.

As deep as the richness created by AI, an even more meaningful impact on our lives will come from personal close people who will help you achieve your goals, create what you want to see in the world, experience adventures, become better friends of those who care about, and become the person you want.

The vision of meta is to bring personal closeness to everyone. We believe in putting this power in people's hands and guiding them towards what they cherish in their lives.

This unlike others in the industry who thinks super intelligence should be directed centrally to automate all valuable work, and then humanity lives in its output doll. In Meta, we believe that those who pursue individual aspirations are always a way of advancing prosperity, science, health and culture. This will become even more important in the future.

The intersection of technology and how people live is a meta focus, which will become more important in the future.

If trends continue, people will spend less time on productivity software and more time creating and connecting. Personal supervision that knows us in depth, helps us to understand our goals and achieve them is much more useful. Personal devices like glasses that understand our context will become our main computing devices as they can see what we see, hear what we hear and interact with us all day long.

We believe that the benefits of super intelligence should be shared as widely as possible with the world. That being said, super intelligence will raise new safety concerns. You should be strict about reducing these risks and paying attention to what you choose to open source. Still, we believe that in order to build a free society, we need to aim to empower people as much as possible.

The rest of the decade appears to be a critical period of time that will determine the path this technology will take. Also, whether superintelligence is a tool for individual empowerment or a tool for power that focuses on replacing it with a large strip of society.

Meta strongly believes in building personal tensions that empower everyone. We have the resources and expertise to build the large infrastructure we need, as well as the ability and willing to deliver new technology to billions of people across our products. I look forward to being able to focus Meta's efforts on building this future.
