AI Talent Wars made another turn on Friday when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced ChatGpt co-creator and former lead scientist at Openai Shengjia Zhao is the lead scientist at Meta's Superintelligence Labs.
“In this role, Shengjia will set a research agenda and scientific orientation for the new lab to work directly with me and Alex,” a statement shared to Zuckerberg's thread account said. “Shengjia co-founded a new lab and has been our lead scientist from day one.”
According to the statement, Meta said they chose to formalize Zhao's leadership position as recruitment is “going well” and the team “gets together.”
The announcement elicited congratulatory remarks from some AI enthusiasts online and brought out more debate about Meta's continued poaching spree, but others asked.
After joining Meta and then Facebook in 2013, Lecun became a prominent figure in the AI industry. On LinkedIn, Lecun admitted the question and revealed his role in Meta.
“My role as Chief Scientist at Fair has always been focused on long-term AI research and building the next AI paradigm,” Lecun wrote Friday. “My role and fair mission have not changed.”
Zuckerberg and Alexandr Wang are the founders of SALE AI, who joined Meta as AI Chief Officers in June. Confirmed That Lecun role has not been changed to their respective social media accounts.
