Welcome to the future where AI takes over meetings instead of humans! Zoom's CEO revealed that the company plans to introduce AI avatars that will join meetings on users' behalf. This may sound like a dystopian nightmare, but think about it for a second. This is actually good news and could bring us closer to a four-day work week.
AI avatars are our savior
Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said in a recent interview that the company is developing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to revolutionize virtual meetings..
Yuan envisions a future where AI avatars are integrated into Zoom's Workplace platform, offering users a better work-life balance.
An AI avatar is a digital representation of an individual created using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. These avatars can mimic human behavior, speech, and appearance with varying levels of realism. In the context of virtual meetings and communication platforms, AI avatars are used to represent users in a virtual environment, allowing them to interact with others without their physical presence.
“We're moving towards a future where everyone has their own personal AI assistant,” he said.
Yuan said this innovative approach would allow users to offload routine tasks to AI-powered virtual assistants, potentially increasing the opportunities for face-to-face interaction and leading to more flexible work schedules.
Will we soon be working four days a week?
AI avatars could push us towards a four-day work week. “That’s part of our workplace. [platform]”This is our 2.0 journey,” Yuan emphasized.
He said this could be achieved by allowing everyone to own their own large-scale language models (LLMs) to act as the backbone of AI-driven digital twins.

“We each have our own law degree, which is essentially the foundation of the digital twin. Then you can rely on your digital twin. Sometimes you choose to participate, and sometimes you can send your digital twin out to work on your behalf. That's the future.”
