Samsung is rolling out this campaign as it predicts that the smartphone market will be “nearly flat” by 2026. Mobile executive Daniel Araujo promised during an October earnings call that the S26 series will deliver “a next-generation, user-centric AI experience, including a new camera sensor.”
This is important because camera improvements are one of the rare clear upgrade points on premium phones. Consumers take fast processors and bright displays for granted. This is especially noticeable when night videos are grainy or zoomed subjects lose detail.
Samsung is doubling down on its premium segment as Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Pixel boost software-based photo and video capabilities. Meanwhile, the Chinese Android brand is pushing the boundaries with longer zooms and better low-light performance. The battle now is not just about megapixel count, but about processing and optics.
According to a report by 9to5Google, Samsung’s three teaser videos are named “Groove,” “Glow,” and “Closer.” Two of them focus on dark scene performance, and the third focuses on long-range zoom. The report also notes that some clips include a disclaimer disclosing that they use AI-generated footage. (9to5Google)
Android Authority highlighted a teaser that focused on a dog inside a car, appearing to zoom well beyond the usual 5x or 10x levels, and was accompanied by fine print indicating it was a simulated image with an AI-generated background. Another teaser reportedly claims it will “brighten up the night,” while a third boasts, “It looks dark, but it shoots bright.” (Android Authority)
As reported by NotebookCheck, Samsung published three teasers on Samsung Mobile’s official Instagram, highlighting “nightgraphy” (a term used to describe low-light photo and video capabilities) as the centerpiece of its upcoming marketing campaign. (note check)
Samsung has not disclosed the hardware upgrades on which these claims are based. According to Samsung’s product page, the current Galaxy S25 Ultra touts “100x Space Zoom,” which combines 10x “optical-quality” zoom with digital zoom and software-driven “super-resolution” processing. (Samsung PL)
If the S26’s improvements are primarily software-based, Samsung will have to prove it can go beyond a slick promotional video by thinking about things like concert lighting, smoke, movement, and real faces. Despite clever marketing, it remains a tough environment for mobile phones.
Risks are hidden in the details. When camera demos rely on simulated scenes or AI-generated backgrounds, questions arise about what the lens actually captures and what the processor processes. That distinction is crucial for brands that market themselves under the label of “AI phone.”
Samsung is currently touting the concept of zooming farther and shooting brighter at night, but specifications and release dates have not been disclosed. The real proof comes when the reviewer gets their hands on the device and the footage tells the story.
