New service shows commerce-grade product recommendations for AI assistants, increasing relevancy by up to 60%

new york, February 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Criteo (NASDAQ: CRTO), the global platform that connects the commerce ecosystem, today announced Agent commerce recommendation serviceis designed to provide AI shopping assistants with accurate and relevant product recommendations built on Criteo’s commerce intelligence.

LLM platforms are rapidly evolving into AI shopping assistants, with retailers developing their own AI chatbots and impacting the way consumers discover, compare, and purchase products online. As these AI-driven shopping experiences expand, to deliver the trusted, personalized results that consumers expect, AI assistants will need commerce-grade recommendation infrastructure that drives results-based relevancy by accessing real shopping behavior, not just public product descriptions. This approach builds on Criteo’s previously published agent commerce vision.

Built on Criteo’s commerce intelligence, the Agentic Commerce Recommendation service improved the relevancy of recommendations by up to 60% compared to third-party approaches based solely on product descriptions in Criteo’s tests¹. This performance is driven by the company’s unparalleled scale, with 720 million daily shoppers, $1 trillion in annual transactions, and 4.5 billion product SKUs.

The service, available through Criteo’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), directly connects an AI-powered shopping assistant with a merchant’s inventory, transforming consumer shopping queries into curated, transaction-ready product recommendations. This allows AI assistants to surface the most relevant products for individual consumers by applying real-world shopping and purchase signals not accessible through traditional crawling tactics.

How it works: How the Agentic Commerce Recommendation service works

  • Shopping request: Consumers rely on AI shopping assistants to find products that match their needs, preferences, and budget.
  • AI assistant queries: The AI assistant queries Criteo’s Agentic Commerce Recommendation service to identify relevant products.
  • Filtering with Commerce Intelligence: Criteo applies real-world shopping and purchase signals to filter and rank products based on what’s most relevant to individual consumers, taking into account nuances such as product popularity, availability, and user intent.
  • Selected results: Criteo returns a curated shortlist of product recommendations rather than raw catalog data.
  • Personalized and easy consumer experience: The AI assistant can review Criteo recommendations, present results, compare options, and assist with add-to-cart or checkout within the agent experience.

Agentic Commerce Recommendation Service understands a wide range of shopper intent, supports both exploratory and product-specific queries, provides relevant product recommendations, and optionally augments them with complementary items.

“The real competitive advantage in agent commerce comes from having access to high-quality commerce data at scale,” said Michael Komasinski, CEO of Criteo. “This service brings that intelligence to an AI-driven shopping experience in a way that works across the ecosystem, delivering relevance to consumers while respecting retailer data, brand integrity, and platform trust.”

Criteo will continue testing on the major LLM platforms launched in 2025, as well as expand testing to other LLM platforms, retailers, and brands. Click here to learn more about how Agentic Commerce Recommendation Service is powering the future of AI-assisted shopping.

1 Based on internal testing of transactional data in January 2026, Criteo’s Agent Commerce Recommendation Service demonstrated up to 60% greater recommendation relevancy compared to third-party approaches based solely on product descriptions. Criteo defines relevance as “the extent to which a product matches a shopper’s current intentions, needs, and preferences, and thus helps move them toward purchase.”
