Sometimes while watching a YouTube video, you have burning questions, but there's no real place to ask them. Google is working to change this by giving YouTube its AI assistant as a virtual viewing partner.
The company has launched a limited experiment in which some YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S. can activate conversational AI to ask questions in real-time about the videos they're watching. When enabled, Android users will see a Ask button below eligible videos where they can type a question or choose from pre-populated prompts, including summaries and recommendations for related content. .
From there, Google's AI analyzes the video footage combined with your query and returns relevant responses on the spot, without interrupting your viewing experience.
However, not all videos have this AI assistant feature. Google is rolling this out in stages, with supported videos clearly advertising a “Question” option under the player controls. The first time you press that button, you'll need to agree to Google's Generated AI Terms before you can begin.
But despite the small hoops it has to jump through, early tests show that the AI's responses are surprisingly quick and accurate.

Please note that this experimental feature currently only lasts until May 1st. It looks like Google wants to gauge user interest and feedback before deciding whether to make it a permanent part of the YouTube experience in the future.
It's inevitable that AI will be incorporated into more Google products and services, so the tech giant is trying to be upfront about its use. YouTube creators are now required to publish AI-generated content, and Google has introduced its AI disclaimer label for videos that deal with sensitive topics like politics and health.
