YouTube, one of the oldest and most popular video streaming platforms, is rolling out a new AI remix feature for Shorts, the short-form videos on the platform. This new feature allows content creators to create new videos from existing videos. Currently, only a small group of English-speaking creators can use this new feature, but it is being tested. This feature is hidden in the “Remix” menu of your short video.
With this new feature, YouTube further powers generative AI in content creation. The main focus was to make editing easier for users. This allows creators to join trends faster and keep everything within the app.
Tool 1: Add object functionality
The first tool is called “Add Object” and allows users to drop AI-generated objects directly into short video clips. It works with videos up to 8 seconds long and is controlled by prompts. Choose from the suggestions or just enter what you want. No more launching complex editing software. Just type it in and the AI will do the rest. It’s an easy way to add a visual twist, spice up your story, and ride the next viral wave with little effort.
Tool 2: Rethink
The next tool is ‘Reimagine’, which is expected to be even bigger. Take a single frame from your short video and transform it into a completely new AI-powered video. You can also use prompts to guide you and provide some reference photos to help shape the look and feel.
Basically, YouTube allows you to transform a moment into something completely different with the help of AI.
YouTube gives creators control
YouTube says it’s focused on providing transparency and creator control. All AI remixes link to the original short story, so the source is always credited. If you don’t want your video to appear in AI Remix, you can opt out. Please note that opting out will also turn off the usual remix options for your content.
The future of AI video and monetization on YouTube
Of course, all of this raises big questions about AI in video, content owners, and creator consent methods, especially as more platforms incorporate generative AI into their tools.
