The past three days have been a nonstop parade of new products, features, and frontier model releases from leading AI labs. New names like “Sol” and “Terra” have been added, as well as new image creation and voice assistant features. Microsoft has added a strange element with its “Poetry Pharmacy.”
There were also significant personnel changes. First, OpenAI’s chief futurist left after nine years with the company. Then, OpenAI’s applications CEO Fidji Simo resigned after taking sick leave.
Behind the scenes, Perplexity has been quietly working on a new coding tool called Teammate that would compete with Anthropic and OpenAI, Business Insider exclusively reported.
Even investor Jason Calacanis can’t keep up. “It’s like a new, better operating system, laptop, or CPU being released every 14 days,” he wrote in X.
We know AI labs like to outdo each other, but this week we emphasized that we shouldn’t expect a summer slowdown in the AI wars. Here’s a summary of all important updates:
OpenAI made the most announcements
On Wednesday, the lab led by Sam Altman debuted GPT-Live, a new voice model that aims to make ChatGPT Voice feel more like talking to a human. Yes, that means we can have a discussion.
The next day, OpenAI debuted the GPT-5.6 family of models. These include the flagship Frontier model Sol, the everyday Terra, and the cost-saving Luna. We also integrated Codex into the ChatGPT desktop app and announced a new workplace-oriented agent called ChatGPT Work.
OpenAI also announced that it is discontinuing its Atlas browser as the company cuts back on “side quests.”
Meta focuses on enterprise AI market
After breaking their silence with Muse Spark in April, Meta’s super-intelligence unit, led by Alexandr Wang, has released a series of products.
The company on Tuesday debuted a new image generation model called Muse Image. The product sparked controversy after public accounts on Instagram were opted in by default.
Next, Meta released the next version of the Muse model, Muse Spark 1.1. This was the first model that Meta charged a fee for, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it was a “very low price.”
Zuckerberg also accused other AI labs of pricing their chatbots at “very extreme” levels.
SpaceXAI and Anthropic — finally friends?
Once rivals, the newly rebranded SpaceXAI and Anthropic now seem to be getting along just fine. Elon Musk is “obviously wrong about Anthropic,” saying the company is the clear leader in AI (Anthropic also pays SpaceX $1.25 billion a month for computing).
But beyond Musk’s change in sentiment, his AI lab also released its latest model, Grok 4.5, on Wednesday. Musk described it as an “Opus-class model.” This is also the first model the company released after acquiring Cursor.
On Thursday, Anthropic released a new “Reflect” feature that allows users to see an overview and analysis of their habits with Claude.
