YouTube is experimenting with a new set of artificial intelligence-powered remix tools designed to help creators transform existing short videos into entirely new videos using simple text prompts.
This limited test is currently available to a small group of English language creators and will appear within the “Remix” menu of your short video. Instead of relying on manual edits or third-party apps, creators can now generate visual changes directly within YouTube’s editor using AI-driven prompts.

Two tools: Add Object and Reimagine
This experiment introduces two different features: “Add Object” and “Reconsider.”
[オブジェクトの追加]allows creators to insert AI-generated elements into clips extracted from existing short videos. This tool works with video segments up to 8 seconds long. Users can choose from suggested prompts or enter custom text instructions to guide what appears in the scene. The goal is to be able to quickly make visual adjustments, such as adding props, effects, and creative overlays, without leaving the Shorts workflow.
The second tool, Reimagine, takes this concept even further. Take a single frame from your short video and transform it into an entirely new AI-generated video. Creators can create their own prompts or choose from suggestions, and can upload up to two reference images to influence style and results. In fact, a single captured moment can become the basis for a completely reinterpreted content.
Attribution and creator management
To address ownership issues, YouTube embeds attribution into its system. All videos generated using these AI remix tools are linked back to the original Short video, maintaining a visible connection to the source creator.
At the same time, creators who don’t want their short videos used for AI remixes can opt out. However, opting out may disable standard content remix functionality, indicating that AI-based remixing may be tightly integrated with existing collaboration features.

Lower the barriers, ask bigger questions
If this tool is more widely deployed, it could significantly lower the barrier to short video production. By reducing the need for editorial expertise and external software, YouTube could facilitate faster trend-driven content cycles and greater experimentation among creators.
But the test also brought renewed attention to questions around consent, creative ownership, and the boundaries of AI-generated derivative works. As platforms increasingly blend generated AI and user content, the balance between innovation and creator rights is likely to continue to come under scrutiny.
