YouTube has launched a Ask a Question button powered by Gemini AI. This allows viewers in select regions to get instant AI-generated answers directly from their video content through an on-screen chat interface.
This feature appears below the video player of eligible videos and is accessible to both YouTube Premium and non-premium users, creating a unified entry point for AI-assisted queries. Viewers can enter custom questions or choose structured prompts. It’s designed to adjust its response to the video you’re watching and minimize navigation from the main interface.
Available prompts include options to summarize the video, recommend related content based on your current viewing, or explain specific concepts referenced in the material. Responses are displayed within an integrated chat window and remain fixed alongside the playback experience, maintaining continuity while providing context-sensitive details.
YouTube specifies that chats should include a clear disclaimer that AI can make mistakes and instruct users to independently verify the information. The Ask a Question button currently works in English on iPhone, Android, and Windows for users 18 and older in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and India, and YouTube’s help page confirms that expansion to more regions and languages is planned.
