YouTube is injecting more AI into recommendations

With YouTube being filled with more AI videos, the company is built on its own AI tools, injecting AI-powered recommendations into platforms aimed at some users.

The new AI-powered search tool is available to premium users of mobile devices. When searching for things related to shopping, locations, or doing things in a particular location, users may see an AI-powered video carousel.

Not all queries will be carousels, but you should include more relevant videos.

So, for example, if you search for “Best Beaches in Hawaii”, YouTube will display an AI-generated carousel with several videos and description clips that accompany the video in the showcase.

YouTube is also expanding its conversational AI tools to some non-premium users across the US. These users can try out AI tools to ask for more information, relevant recommendations, and summaries.

In April, Google announced that the AI-powered feature would come to YouTube to “provide an alternative way to discover content when searching on YouTube, and another way to discover topics and information related to search queries.” YouTube is owned by Google and has introduced new AI search tools to Google Search, including AI Overview and AI Mode. Both of these tools feature Google's Gemini AI models, and it's no surprise that Google will also use Gemini on YouTube.

So, after testing AI searches on some US users and YouTube, the official development is here.

Premium users can try it themselves.
