NEW DELHI: YouTube has announced updates for content creators, including interest-based targeting for Promote features and expansion of AI-powered video tools to Shorts and YouTube Create apps, according to a product update shared by the platform.
This change is aimed at improving communication between creators and YouTube’s internal teams.
One of the major updates is the launch of interest targeting for YouTube Promote. This feature allows creators to target audiences based on categories such as gaming, beauty, and travel, in addition to existing options such as demographics, country, and language. “Creators will now have more control over who their promotions are shown to,” the platform said.
Interest categories are determined using aggregated and anonymized signals from your activity across Google and YouTube. For example, users who often watch cooking videos or search for recipes might be grouped under Food and Meals. This feature is currently available on desktop, but we plan to expand it to mobile as well.
YouTube clarified that promotions remain optional and separate from organic discovery, and that subscribers and views gained through this feature will not count toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility.
The platform also announced that its “Ingredients to Video” tool will now be available for Shorts videos and the YouTube Create app. This feature allows creators to use AI models to turn text prompts and reference images into 8-second video clips.
