YouTube will crack down on AI voices and low effort content as a monetization shift

Video sharing platform YouTube has announced the end of monetization of videos generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The latest policy update said the platform would not monetize reused content or low-effort compilation either.

Instead, he said that only creators who create original content with genuine human voices will be eligible for monetization.

“To monetize as part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube is always asking creators to upload “original” and “real” content.

“On July 15th, 2025, YouTube will update its guidelines to better identify mass-produced recurring content. This update better reflects what today's “fraudulent” content looks like,” reads the update.

This update is considered a strategic step to protecting creators.

According to YouTube Insider's Rene Ritchie, the update will help you better identify mass-produced or repeated content on the platform.

“This is a minor update to YouTube's longstanding YPP policy that helps better identify when content is mass-produced or repeated. This type of content has already not been eligible for monetization for years, and content audiences are often considering spam,” he said.

However, this policy does not mean that you cannot use AI tools to realize creative ideas.

The affected videos include videos or videos generated by AI with synthetic voices, content reused or reused without any major changes, and low-effort compilation that lacks originality.

Faceless or automated videos that provide minimal human input, such as static images with AI-generated audio tracks, will also be demoed.

Additionally, the new policy requires creators to disclose realistic content, including generated AI, when modified or synthetic media is used.

While still monetized, creators need to use real human voices in their videos to produce unique, creative and authentic content.

You should also add original commentary, personal insights, or in-depth analysis to the video.

Including behind the scenes and videos explaining the creative process can also help you monetize.
