what happened? Prime Video has launched a new feature called Video Recaps that uses generative AI to create short recap videos that provide updates ahead of new seasons. The best part is that it uses real footage, audio narration, music, and dialogue clips to highlight key moments from the show without giving away any spoilers.
-
When you go to the details page for a supported show or movie, you’ll see a new[要約]A button will appear.
-
Once selected, you can choose between a video summary or an existing X-Ray summary text summary that creates a spoiler-free summary of the show.
-
The tool is currently in beta in the US region for select English Prime Originals, including Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Bosch, Upload, The Rig, and Fallout.

This is important for the following reasons: If you’ve ever started a new season and wondered, “What happened last time?”, this solves that problem in a cinematic way. Instead of rewatching old episodes or scrolling through Wikipedia, you can understand the context and jump to it.

The AI behind Video Recaps analyzes character arcs, major plot points, and turning scenes and stitches them together into theatrical-style highlight videos.
-
It builds on Prime Video’s earlier “X-Ray Recaps” feature from 2024, which provides a quick text summary of key moments in a story.
-
Because the Recaps feature is derived from licensed footage, this feature is currently limited to some Prime Originals.
AI-generated summaries are quickly becoming the norm across platforms, with tools like Spotify’s new summarization feature for audiobooks and Kindle’s story progress summaries to help users catch up without starting from scratch.
Why should we care? If you watch a lot of TV series on Prime Video and sometimes lose track of the characters and story, this can be very helpful.
-
You can start a new season with a refreshed version of the previous content, saving you time rewinding.
-
You can also decide whether you want just a quick update (text) or a fully produced video summary.
-
This update may encourage viewers to pick up paused shows and resume seasons with confidence after a long hiatus.
If you don’t see the video summarization feature yet, your account or region may not be included in the beta. The recap feature will be rolled out more broadly, but you’ll still be able to see what’s new on Amazon Prime Video and watch directly the best movies currently available on the platform.
