These optimized text at the top of the story work well for both busy readers and GoogleBot, and quickly understand the subject of the content.
News organizations and aggregators Yahoo News has developed a “key point” feature for several articles on its site.
The summary is designed to extract information directly from the article itself, rather than incorporating data from the entire Internet.
These AI-equipped features have increased user engagement by 50%, and per user costs have increased by 165% since the renewal.

The AI-generated summary in the Wall Street Journal is presented as three bullet points called “key points.”
All summary shows prominently “What is this?” A button that quickly explains the functionality to readers.
“I have created this summary checked by the editor based on the text of the article,” the journal tells readers who click “What is this?” button. “Read more about how you use artificial intelligence in journalism.”
The Journal began working on this feature in early 2024.
Initially, this work was scoped for newswire products aimed at B2B clients who wanted important information without reading the full text of the article.
Google Gemini has earned important points.
The journal will experiment with more AI-generated features.
Its chatbots (Lars, Taxbot, and Joannabot) help readers explore topics that they have deep expertise and authority.
The AI summary on Bloomberg.com is called Takeaways. The AI summary is also featured in Bloomberg Story at Bloomberg Terminal.
Bloomberg has featured them in Longform's work and plans to include them in the future.
These summaries, which are clear and concise snapshots, are especially welcome in fast moving news.
