X's Prplexity bot gets AI-powered video generation capabilities available to all users

AI News

Perplexity upgraded its AI (AI) chatbot last week with X (formerly known as Twitter). Called Ask Perplexity, AI bots can now generate videos based on user prompts. The company did not reveal the large-scale language model (LLM) used to generate these videos, but Guardrails highlighted that no synthetic videos were generated for people who resemble real-world celebrities and public figures. This feature is currently available to all X users when tagging chatbots with posts or first-level comments.

Ask Perplexity and you can generate AI videos

In the X post, I confirmed that the official handle of Perplexity's AI bot has video generation capabilities. Interestingly, the first and only chatbots on the platform offer this feature. Even Grok, built by Elon Musk's Xai team, doesn't have this ability.

Currently, Ask Perplexity can generate 8-second video in parallel with the text prompt, based solely on a text prompt or image input. The output can contain native audio and tell the chatbot to add dialogs to multiple speakers. As mentioned above, AI companies have not mentioned the AI model they are using for this feature, but based on the explanation, it is possible that they are using Google's VEO 3 model. However, you cannot say that for sure.

Once the announcement was made, X users began testing the functionality with countless imaginations and hilarious prompts. Staff of 360 gadgets came across several posts, and users asked the AI bot to generate videos with real celebrities and public figures. However, the final output only featured characters who vaguely resemble real people. However, users can generate videos using image prompts, so we don't know if the confusion will satisfy those requests.

A day later, the chatbot posted: “I've read the video request DMS. It's likely that you'll make a tongue-like comment about the extreme nature of video generation requests and indicate that such requests are not met.
