Social media platform X has tightened its creator revenue sharing rules and introduced new penalties for users who post unpublished AI-generated content related to armed conflict.
The announcement was made by Nikita Beer, head of product at X, who said the company aims to protect the authenticity of information displayed on users’ timelines, especially during the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
“Today, we are revising our Creator Revenue Sharing Policy to maintain the authenticity of content on Timeline and prevent tampering with our programs,” Beer wrote in the post.
The policy update comes amid an ongoing crisis in the Middle East following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which have led to misleading AI-generated images and videos being spread on social media platforms.

“During wartime, it’s important that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technology, it’s easy to create content that misleads people,” Beer said.
Suspension of unpublished AI content
Under the updated rules, users who post AI-generated videos depicting armed conflict without clearly disclosing that the material was created using AI will be suspended from the Creator Revenue Share Program for 90 days.
Beer said repeat violations will result in permanent removal from the program.
Execution mechanism
Bier said enforcement will be based on community notes attached to posts, as well as metadata and other indicators that the content was created using generative AI tools.
“Going forward, users who post AI-generated videos of armed conflict without adding a disclosure that they were AI-generated will be suspended from creator revenue sharing for 90 days. Any subsequent violation will result in a permanent suspension from the program,” he wrote.
Bier added that posts can also be flagged if they contain metadata or signals from generative AI tools.
Noting that some videos are very realistic, and responding to a user’s question about what happens if someone shares an AI-generated clip without their knowledge, Beer said creators should add the “Created by AI” label by selecting “Add Content Disclosure” from the post menu.
Crackdown on AI misinformation
The move is part of a broader effort by X to address the rise in AI-generated misinformation on social media.
In recent weeks, deepfake videos and doctored footage have been circulating on platforms purporting to show scenes from the ongoing conflict. Some of these posts have been exposed as doctored or fabricated content by independent fact-checkers.
Beer said the platform will continue to update its policies and product features to ensure its reliability even during major global events.
“We will continue to improve our policies and products to ensure that X can be trusted during these critical moments,” he wrote.
