X plans to stop creators’ revenue sharing for unpublished AI war video posts

Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has announced that users who repeatedly share AI-generated war videos without clearly labeling them as synthetic content will lose their ability to earn money on the platform.

Nikita Via, Chief Product Officer at X, emphasized that with today’s AI technology, it is increasingly easy to create misleading content. “Going forward, any privately shared AI-generated video depicting armed conflict will result in a 90-day ban from the creator revenue sharing program,” Beer said.

The platform plans to identify AI-generated content through proprietary discovery tools and a community notes system that relies on crowdsourced validation from its user base.

The Creator Revenue Share Program allows content creators to earn a portion of ad revenue when their posts receive high engagement. The program is intended to increase interactive content on the platform, but some critics say it encourages clickbait and sensational posts.

Experts have warned that the scope of the new policy could be limited. AI-generated images and videos are frequently used to promote political disinformation and misleading products, as well as war-related content. Currently, the 90-day suspension only applies to content depicting armed conflict, and does not apply to other potentially harmful AI-generated content.

International news organizations also reported on this policy. Business Standard noted that the move targets users who do not publish AI-generated war videos, while India Today and Tribune highlighted its relevance as conflicts continue in the Middle East. U.S. officials praised Company X’s efforts and said such financial penalties could help reduce the spread of misleading information.

This new approach represents part of a broader global discussion about the responsibility of social media platforms in moderating AI-generated content and preventing the spread of misinformation. (dolphin)
