islamabad: Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has discovered a Pakistan-based operator with 31 accounts sharing AI-generated war videos related to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

Nikita Beer, head of product at X, said in a post that the account was hacked on February 27 and the username was changed to “Iran War Monitor” or a derivative thereof.

“Last night we discovered a man in Pakistan who was managing 31 accounts posting AI war videos. All were hacked and the usernames were changed to ‘Iran War Monitor’ or some variant on February 27th. We are detecting this much faster. And we are also removing the incentive to do this,” Nikita Beer posted on X.

Beer said the X account was not only impersonating Iran-linked observers, but also masquerading as several “IDF Girl” accounts operating in Pakistan.

In response to another post by X, Beer wrote, “99% of the time it’s just people looking to monetize their games. But to answer your question, yes, we recently cleaned up the ‘IDF Girl’ account that leaked out of Pakistan. The only thing they care about is what gets impressions, not political leanings.”

In response, X announced stricter rules. Nikita Beer said that users who share AI-generated videos of armed conflict without adding a disclosure that they were created by AI will be suspended from creator revenue sharing for 90 days. He stressed the importance of people having access to authentic information from the ground during times of war.

“Today, we are revising our creator revenue sharing policy to maintain the authenticity of content on our timeline and prevent tampering with our programming. During times of war, it’s important that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technology, it’s easy to create content that can mislead people,” Nikita Bea posted on X.

“Going forward, any user who posts an AI-generated video of armed conflict (without adding a disclosure that it was created using AI) will be suspended from creator revenue sharing for 90 days. Any subsequent violation will result in a permanent suspension from the program. “We will continue to improve our policies and products to ensure that X can be trusted during these critical moments.”

X’s decision comes amid an ongoing conflict in West Asia that began after a joint U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran aimed at reducing Tehran’s missile capabilities and extensive military infrastructure.

The opening wave of operations killed senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and set off a full-scale Iranian response in the form of drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. assets, regional capitals, and allied forces across West Asia.
