A South Korean woman has been charged with using artificial intelligence (AI) to plan the murders and killing two men with drug-infused drinks, police said. The defendant was identified only by his last name, Kim, according to the report. According to reports from the BBC and the Korea Herald, she murdered two men by giving them drug-laced drinks, and used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to plan and prepare the drinks.

According to reports from two media outlets, Kim was arrested on February 11, 2026, on the first charge of assault resulting in the deaths of two people.

When did the murder occur?

Kim, 21, is accused of carrying out two murders within about two weeks. According to a report in the Korea Herald, police said the first murder occurred on January 28, 2026, when she was suspected of going to a motel with a man in his 20s in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul. She left the motel two hours later, but the man was found dead by the next day.

The next murder occurred on February 9, 2026, when Kim allegedly used the same method to meet another man in his 20s and check into another motel in Seoul.

Authorities also claimed there was another suspected murder attempt in December 2025. At that time, the 21-year-old defendant allegedly gave his then-partner (also in his 20s) a drink laced with sedatives in Namyangju, after which he lost consciousness.

She forced a man to drink a drug-laced drink at a cafe parking lot in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. He survived and his injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to the Korea Herald.

Kim’s mobile phone was seized by authorities during the investigation, and it was revealed that Kim had enlisted the help of an AI chatbot, ChatGPT, to investigate the effects of mixing various prescription drugs with alcohol.

“What happens if you take sleeping pills with alcohol?” she allegedly asked the chatbot, as quoted by the BBC and the Korea Herald. “How many can I ingest to make it dangerous?” and “Can it kill someone?” she further asked the chatbot. ChatGPT’s parent company, OpenAI, had not released any statements regarding this matter at the time of filing this report.

What drugs did Kim use?

Police said Kim prepared drinks containing extremely high doses of drugs, including benzodiazepines. These are the types of drugs after the first incident occurred in December 2025.
