Are Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur really married? Social media briefly thought so, thanks to a convincing AI-generated video that went viral on Instagram on Friday.
The video, shared by the account @devaimation, showed what appeared to be scenes from the actors’ wedding, and also claimed that the ceremony took place on January 22 in Chennai. Lille even describes it as a “tight-knit, private family wedding”, giving it an authentic feel.
But it didn’t take long for fans to find something.
The biggest perk was the guest list. In the video, Dhanush and Mrunal can be seen smiling together, with several prominent actors including Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay, Ajith and Trisha appearing in the background. The idea of so many top stars casually attending a “private” wedding immediately raised eyebrows.
Another clinching moment was a shot of Trisha taking a selfie. However, the hand holding the phone clearly belonged to Shruti Haasan. This was one of several visual discrepancies that only an AI could create.
Interestingly, the creator has included a disclaimer at the end of the caption, stating that the video was generated by AI and is intended purely for entertainment and news-style presentation, with no official confirmation from the actors involved. Nevertheless, the clip quickly went viral, with many viewers completely missing the disclaimer.
Although the majority of users recognized the video as fake, some still commented, “Is this AI?” — highlights how content like this can easily blur the line between fiction and reality online.
