WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new update that will allow Meta AI to reply to and edit photos sent by users. The new feature was spotted by WABetainfo in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.14.20 and may make it into the stable build soon.
According to reports, WhatsApp is testing the implementation of a new chat button that will allow users to share photos directly with Meta AI. After sending an image to Meta AI, users can ask the chatbot to identify a specific object or provide context. Additionally, users can also ask Meta AI to modify the image via a text prompt.
Screenshots shared by WABetainfo also reveal that WhatsApp may state that it will provide users with complete control over their photos by giving them the power to delete them at any time.
Meanwhile, an earlier WABetainfo report suggested that WhatsApp was developing a feature that would allow users to get an AI-generated image of themselves by sharing photos with Meta AI.
Meta AI asks users to submit a set of photos, which it analyzes to ensure the images created accurately represent the user's appearance, and users can access Meta AI settings to delete the setup images at any time.
The AI generator is reportedly triggered when a user types the prompt “imagine me” in a Meta AI conversation. Users also have the opportunity to invoke the feature in other conversations by typing “@Meta AI imagine me.” Additionally, Meta AI cannot read other messages in a conversation, and the resulting images are processed automatically.
However, the new feature will likely be optional, requiring users to opt-in before they can start using it.
