Snapchat is getting more chatty than just friends sending 47-second videos of their dogs.

Snap has signed a $400 million deal with Perplexity AI that will bring its buzzy AI search engine directly into Snapchat’s chat interface starting in early 2026.

Soon you’ll be able to ask questions like “Why is the sky blue?” on Snapchat. or “How can I resolve my situation?” Get real, sourced answers without leaving the app.

Unlike the usual “vibe-only” Snapchat experience, Perplexity’s answer is: verifiable sourcesSo this isn’t just a chatbot that confidently says nonsense.

Snap says the deal will begin contributing to earnings in 2026, which in company terms: tons I need money for this. ”

CEO Evan Spiegel said this is just the beginning. In his letter to shareholders, he hinted that Snapchat could become a complete AI distribution hub, with multiple AI partners connecting to the app like an app within an app.

Basically, Snapchat wants to be the mall food court for AI assistants, and Perplexity just opened its first booth.

Snap is already deeply involved in AI trends. Our proprietary chatbot, MyAI, leverages models from OpenAI and Google, and will soon be joined by Perplexity.

AI capabilities also helped revitalize the company’s paid tier, Snapchat+, with things like AI lenses and creative tools.

But Mr. Spiegel’s teasing wasn’t over. He also previewed AI Clips, a new tool that allows creators to generate short videos from simple text prompts. TikTok “Please make my video” comes across.

There’s no release date yet, but we can already hear influencers updating their update tabs.

A new version of Specs is planned for next year, and since it’s now spun off as a subsidiary, Snap might be able to work with a hardware partner, meaning it could pay someone else to actually build it.
