Kunal Shah said that while the company is currently focused on the Indian market, it eventually plans to go global and tap into growing financial markets overseas.
Shah and Mahip Gupta co-founded Valuationary. The company was acquired by Raise Financial Services in 2022 and renamed Upsurge.
The demand to learn stock market trading and investing is constantly increasing as more and more people are keen to dabble in stock market investing, said Mr. Gupta.
“At Upsurge, we believe that stock market participants should thoroughly learn how to trade and invest in the market and reduce mistakes while trading and investing,” Gupta told PTI.
Shah added that the wide range of courses now on offer caters to the needs of both beginners dipping their toes in the stock market and experienced traders and investors looking to improve their skills. He said the name Upsurge resonates well with a younger audience involved in trading and investing.
“Upsurge is working on generative AI tools to create video-based learning content that will make our products more accessible and affordable,” Shah told PTI.
“The idea behind setting up Upsurge is to enable stock market participants to trade and invest properly, especially in the futures and options (F&O) segment where 90% of traders are not making profits. Upsurge imparts education through well-produced courses, live sessions, mentorship programs and social media initiatives,” he explained.
The platform has more than 60 courses and five mentorship programs (focusing on options trading, technical analysis, investment strategies, and personal finance, among others) and has attracted more than 100,000 users who are constantly learning on the platform and becoming better traders. And there are investors, Shah noted.
Since its inception, Upsurge has used multiple services from AWS (Amazon Web Services) to ensure traffic management as the platform is built and expanded.
Upsurge's platform is coached by over 50 traders, investors, and fund managers. The overall size of the community is over 500,000 learners across the Upsurge platform.
“After the acquisition, the lives of the founders and the entire team changed quite dramatically,” Shah said. The lineup of courses and products is amazingly fast.
“While maintaining speed, we also ensure that the value we provide to our users is much higher than the price we charge. This is also the reason why Upsurge is one of the most affordable platforms to learn trading and investing across India,” he said.
Upsurge's vision is to be the number one learning platform in finance.
“Going forward, we will gamify the entire learning process to make it more interactive and engaging, which will help Upsurge increase its completion rate (people who enroll and complete a course), which is currently around 25%,” he says.
Upsurge has made extensive use of AWS services, Amazon's cloud computing division, to help grow its business.
“Since the beginning of our business, we have used multiple services from AWS, including EC2 to autoscale our servers to better manage our traffic. In addition, we have used Cloud Front to ensure we manage our content. , Elemental MediaConvert, and S3. Storage, video processing, and content streaming work seamlessly.”
Amazon's Simple Email Service (SES) enabled Upsurge to automate bulk email and converted 10 percent of its free users into paying ones.
“We have benefited greatly from AWS services,” said Mr. Gupta, expressing confidence that the partnership with AWS will help the company scale its business.
