HYDERABAD: Young cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been in the spotlight with his impressive performance, including a 29-ball 94 in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A.

In this backdrop, a video purportedly showing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a girl is going viral on social media. Users are sharing the clip as authentic and claiming it captures a personal moment of the cricketer.

In the video, a boy resembling Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is seen holding the girl’s hand as he gets out of the car and is photographed by a paparazzi who is not in the frame.

fact check

NewsMeter found this claim to be false. The viral video was generated by AI.

Source indicates creation of AI

A reverse image search for keyframes from the viral video led to an Instagram reel posted by the account ai_prompt778 days before the clip started circulating. This video also includes a watermark with the account name.

The reel’s caption tells us it’s an AI-generated video. The creator also shared the prompts used to generate the video in the comments section.

I looked into their profile and found that they were calling themselves an “AI content creation account.” This account regularly uploads similar AI-generated videos and reels.

Another version of the video showed notable discrepancies in the way Suryavanshi got out of the car. Unnatural movements or movement distortions indicate AI-generated content.

Visual inconsistencies in AI videos

At first glance at the AI video, there aren’t many visual discrepancies.

However, upon closer inspection, subtle flickering around the edges of hair and clothing revealed a lighting mismatch between the subject and the surrounding environment. Such visual artifacts are commonly associated with AI-generated videos.

AI detection tools flag your video

We analyzed the clips using AI detection tools such as Hive Moderation and Deepfake-O-Meter. Both tools flagged videos that were likely synthetically generated.

The video that went viral does not show the actual incident involving Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. This is an AI-generated clip made to look real and shared as authentic footage.

Therefore, this claim is false.
