Looking for employment? AI can help you in unexpected ways.
A TikTok video by user Hanna Goefft shows how easy it is to use AI to prepare for an interview. This is a novel idea and seems to work.
In this clip, Goefft begins by showing a description of the actual job, followed by a simple copy and paste. She says this applies to any job, but I wondered what would happen if the job was more technical, like her hardcore web developer.
She then pasted the job description into ChatGPT and instructed the AI app to generate questions based on job qualifications.
After a few seconds, you will be presented with a series of questions to help you prepare for your interview. Many of them seemed like perfect examples of real questions.
I decided to try myself for some job descriptions, such as marketing and editor. After finding one on Google’s list, I copied its text into the bot interface and asked ChatGPT to generate interview questions.
In no time, the bot generated 20 questions containing real interview questions. One related to her website experience: “Has he worked with a website agency to develop and maintain effective websites, e-commerce storefronts, campaigns and content?”
Goev explained how targeting keywords can help. The idea is that the bot will generate key keywords from the job description and help you prepare by choosing those words when answering questions.
In my test, I used the keywords provided by the bot to answer some questions. It sounded like a chatbot to me, too, to be honest. I chose words like “search engine optimization” to show that I could answer appropriately, but it felt a bit staged.
Just omitting the use of keywords and answering in a more natural way seemed to work.
Will it actually help you find a new job?
I think it can be done. It’s a smart idea to practice interviews, and the questions generated are perfectly aligned with the job. Often during job interviews, you focus on your experience and interests rather than the answers the interviewer expects. AI-generated questions help you stay focused, especially on what you’re doing.
Keywords weren’t all that helpful (e.g. it looked like they were trying to optimize the reply for a search engine rather than an interview), but I could see how they could be. Show your expertise by adding relevant words.
Bots may one day conduct interviews instead of humans. It’s probably already happened. He hopes that the TokTok hack will help people get jobs beyond turning them into robots.
