HANOI — The Ministry of Planning and Investment will develop a project on establishing AI training and application centres aimed at promoting the application of artificial general intelligence (AIG) in enterprises.
The project aims to accelerate the development of high-quality human resources and infrastructure systems for AIG research and application, as well as develop an AI ecosystem, promote international cooperation, and contribute to the formation of a sandbox legal framework for AIG.
Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong said AI is a breakthrough technology that will transform all aspects of life.
Based on Prime Minister's Decision No. 127/QĐ-TTg dated January 26, 2021, “National AI Strategy to 2030,” Vietnam aims to make AI a key technology area.
Currently, Vietnam ranks among the top 4 in ASEAN and among the top 50 in the world in terms of AI research, development and application.
Vietnam has developed 10 reputable AI brands in the region, established three national centers for big data storage and high-performance computing, and has 50 open and interconnected datasets for AI research and development.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment has proposed developing an AI training and application centre under the National Innovation Centre to attract venture capital to Vietnam's AI start-ups.
At the same time, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue to improve the institutional framework and policies to attract foreign direct investment and multinational enterprises for the development of AI research and applications in Vietnam.
The ministry has received inputs from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the University of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and research institutes on the AI centre's goals and missions, development directions, policies and cooperation mechanisms.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment welcomes opinions and contributions to finalize the draft, he said. — VNS
