Malmo, Sweden. Virtium Embedded Artists has launched the IMX8M Mini DX-M1, System-on-Module (SOM), which combines a Quad-Core application processor with 25 TOPS AI hardware accelerator chips in a compact 82mm x 50mm footprint. The solution is built around the I.MX 8M of NXP, an application processor with four 1.6GHz/1.8GHz ARM Cortical A53 CPU cores backed by 2GB of LPDDR4 memory and four 1.6GHz/1.8GHz ARM Cortical A53 CPU cores and 400MHz Cortex-M4 controller cores. The platform integrates the DEEPX DX-M1 AI Neural Processing Unit (NPU) into the SOM.

The I.MX 8M Mini enhances video and imaging applications via a video engine with 1080p Codec, a 2D/3D graphics engine, a 4-lane MIPI-DSI interface and a Gigabit Ethernet interface. Working with the DEEPX DX-M1 NPU, I.MX 8M supports the image processing required for AI-enabled vision system applications such as:

  • Drone
  • Security and monitoring
  • Automatic inspection and monitoring
  • Transportation
  • MedTech
  • Agtech

The SOM includes 4GB of LPDDR5 memory for AI processors accessed via a 64-bit four-channel data bus, allowing the DX-M1 to run multiple AI models simultaneously without compromising performance.

Two versions are available. One features a Deepx AI accelerator and an i.mx 8m mini processor, while the other uses the i.mx 8m Mini to allow for added AI vision features without changing the OEM's carrier board design. Both are available with the 1.8GHz I.MX 8m Mini to operate at temperatures between 0°C and 70°C or with a 1.6GHz I.MX 8m MINI with a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
