Many social media users share the footage as evidence of a massive demonstration taking place in Tokyo. However, our fact-checking reveals that this video is being generated by AI. Japan has recently hosted several authentic pro-Palestinian protests, but this particular video was artificially created using AI technology.

There is no reliable media coverage
Major Japanese and international outlets report on demonstrations in Tokyo in support of Palestine, but none covers events similar to viral videos. The protests depicted, if genuine, could have been reported by Japanese and international media. The lack of reports from reliable sources suggests that footage may not represent actual events.
Additionally, Nippon Communications Foundation, which monitors stories about Japan in Arabic media, addressed the clip directly. In a post on the X platform, the organization revealed that the Circular Video did not display any real demos in Japan and was manufactured using AI instead. The message is translated as follows: “I'm sorry, but this is not Japan. These are AI-generated clips that are widely distributed on social media.”

Visual analysis
It also used the reverse image search function to lead to the origins of the video. This led me to a Tiktok account (@hassan_morningStar) which posted protest clips generated by multiple AIs. The original footage was born from two posts released on July 29th (see here and here)
These include step-by-step scenes set not only in Japan, but also in the UK and South Korea. Two such examples can be found here and here. The consistent style and artificial visuals clearly show the generation of AI rather than actual footage.
Additionally, I submitted screenshots from the video to DeCopy, an AI image detector. This confirmed that the scene was likely created by artificial intelligence.
Protests in Japan
The video generated by this AI is produced, but in Japan, there are actual pro-Palestinian demonstrations. In July 2025, hundreds of protesters gathered in Tokyo's Shibuya area, receiving chants and criticism of “Free Palestine” for Israeli military operations in Gaza. Another demonstration continued in central Tokyo in early August 2025, when participants protested the situation in Gaza and defended the Palestinian state.
Conclusion
We found out that the virus video is AI generated and does not portray the real protest in Japan. The real pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place in Tokyo, but they were larger than what the produced footage portrayed.
