Moringa By December 2026, the Free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Upskills Initiative has officially launched to help 3,600 Kenyan youth prepare for the practical and future. This national program ensures that young professionals in software engineering, education, healthcare, and other targeted occupations have the skills needed for future jobs.
Funded as part of a $2 million Google grant, it partners with WethinkCode From South Africa, the initiative is part of a continental-wide effort to train 12,000 learners in Kenya and South Africa with AI competency. Moringa leads the Kenya rollout. We leverage this advanced alumni partnership, grassroots partnership and local expertise to ensure comprehensive access to this high-demand skill set. Drawing on Moringa's strengths in software engineering, the program begins with pondering young software engineers and later expands to other specialties such as education and healthcare.

Why is it important now?
AI will be launched at key moments as AI begins to rebuild the industry, from healthcare and education to logistics and creative media. However, access to AI skills training is highly concentrated in the Global North, restricting Africa's participation in shaping the future of technology. The program aims to change it and offers practical, human-centric training designed for real-world impact.
National recruitment is underway
To ensure diversified participation, Moringa is at the forefront of a nationwide recruitment drive targeting women, underrepresented communities, and experts from around the country. Partnerships with leaders from a variety of high-tech hubs, universities and industry, while promoting awareness and registration.
