Popular video platform Vimeo has announced a suite of generative AI tools for content creators. The new features are designed to streamline video creation by aiding the burning, recording and editing process, one of the many facets of synthetic media that has been in rapid development this year.
Vimeo AI
Vimeo divides its generative AI capabilities into three components. Screenwriter, teleprompter, and text-centric editor. This script tool is very similar to ChatGPT and other generative AI chatbots. The user describes the type of video they want to make, including length and tone. The AI then creates a script based on the prompt for approval, paraphrases the words, and even resubmits the outline if the user wants to try again. Once the script is approved, Vimeo’s AI will bring it on screen, including scrolling up at your preferred pace, to keep the performer in eye contact with the camera.
Even professional broadcast writers hesitate, use filler words, and stumble during recording. Vimeo touts its generative AI video editor as a method that doesn’t require any takes. Text-based editing tools automatically detect and remove ill-timed pauses, stutters, and other cuts so you know where to seamlessly stitch frames together. Vimeo claims that these generative AI tools will allow users to create and upload fully professional-looking videos in a fraction of the usual time, and the tools include a free trial. It will begin rolling out in July as part of a subscription service.
“AI in video pushes the boundaries of accessibility. Now any individual or business can create compelling, professional content in minutes, even with no production experience.” said Vimeo Chief Product Officer Ashraf Alkarmi. “While this is just the beginning of our new integrated AI video strategy, we believe this launch will transform the way companies communicate and connect with distributed teams and customers.”

Generative AI offers a lot for video creators. That option is from an invisible assistant like the one Vimeo offers to her D-ID, which just raised $90 million, and its Creative Reality Studio or a company like Synthesia’s fully synthesized characters, sets. , voice and performance. Hour One’s video wizard also uses generative AI to create a virtual performer and script his wizard to figure out what they should say. Vimeo’s approach is similar to how Canva provides generative AI assistance for creative presentations and Adobe Firefly’s generative AI video toolkit. and campaign. It also has similarities to Meta’s recently introduced Segment Anything Model (SAM), which can split both images and videos into component objects without training. SAM can identify and extract objects in images or videos.
“We’ve obviously just scratched the surface of what AI can do for organizations and people within them,” says Alcarmi. “We envision a future where AI knowledge is a prerequisite rather than a luxury for video production. Leaders must adapt now to enable their teams to create more efficiently. Otherwise, you run the risk of being left behind.”
