Vietnam telecommunications giant VNPT establishes AI company

The state-run Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) on Thursday established a subsidiary, VNPT AI, with the aim of bringing Vietnam's AI products to the international market.

Over the years, VNPT has systematically invested in technology capabilities, including 20 petabytes of data infrastructure, the ability to process nearly 20 terabytes of data daily, a comprehensive product ecosystem, and a growing number of hundreds of petaflops of high-performance computing systems.

These foundations will be key for VNPT AI to develop large-scale AI models that can meet nationwide deployment requirements, the group says on its website.

In addition to infrastructure, VNPT AI brings together more than 200 nationally and internationally trained AI and data science experts.

VNPT general director Huynh Quang Liem said AI has been identified as the group's new strategic focus.

“On December 8, 2025, VNPT officially announced its AI strategy under the new circumstances. The establishment of VNPT AI represents a concrete and decisive step to implement that strategy, positioning AI as the group's core function, growth driver and new competitive pillar. VNPT AI will become the new driving force and strategic spearhead of VNPT,” he emphasized.

Liem said VNPT AI aims to take the lead in researching, developing and mastering AI models. Regarding products, we focus on highly practical solutions, which were initially introduced internally as a “launching pad” to develop the domestic market, and have since been gradually rolled out to the global market.

VNPT has developed more than 100 specialized AI models, processed more than 2 billion requests, serves approximately 40 million citizens, and supports more than 200 businesses and numerous government agencies nationwide.

The company estimates its consolidated sales in 2025 to be VND61.25 trillion ($2.33 billion), and the parent company's contribution is VND48.09 trillion, reaching 101.2% of the allocated target.

Consolidated pre-tax profit totaled VND 6.6 trillion ($250.71 million), including VND 5.37 trillion from the parent company, achieving 103.7% of the plan.

The group's total national budget contribution reached VND6.08 trillion ($230.95 million), of which the parent company accounted for VND4.89 trillion, achieving 100.8% of the allocated target.

Nokia has extended its long-term partnership with VNPT through a new agreement to upgrade and expand wireless infrastructure across the country. The agreement was announced at a business event held by Vietnam Party leader Thu Lam in October as part of his visit to Finland. The new agreement focuses on the Hanoi region, border areas and southern regions and is an important step in promoting the country's digital connectivity.

Earlier in the month, VNPT and Qualcomm officially launched the VNPT-Qualcomm Excellence Center (VQEC), the first facility in the country to operate under an original design co-development model using Qualcomm's core technology.

VNPT is leading this center, which will also be one of Qualcomm's authorized design centers. VQEC aims to become a regional innovation and R&D center that connects stakeholders across Vietnam's technology ecosystem, from companies and research institutes to startups and universities. The company specializes in the development of intelligent electronic devices, network equipment and AI-powered computing platforms, helping Vietnam strengthen its position in the global value chain.
