On March 17, 2026, the Instagram account “thenewscartel” shared a video with the following caption (archive link): “Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar – March 16, 2026: On March 16, Iran carried out a ballistic missile and drone attack on Al-Udeid Air Base, the largest US military facility in the Middle East, near Doha.
The act is said to be a response to the US and Israeli attacks in Tehran. Qatar’s Ministry of Defense has reportedly confirmed that multiple missiles and drones were launched from Iran and that Qatar’s air defense forces were successful in intercepting most of them.
One missile either landed near a base or fell into an uninhabited area, but there were no casualties or serious damage. The explosion rippled through Doha and smoke was visible on the skyline. ”

Survey details
A detailed analysis of the video was conducted to confirm the veracity of the viral claims. Observations revealed a strange anomaly. Some were seen to recede unnaturally, while others seemed to flicker in and out of existence.
Additionally, as people fled the scene, their physical shapes became distorted. Such oddities led to doubts about the origin of the video, indicating that it was likely generated by AI.
When we evaluated the videos using Tencent’s Zhuque AI video detection tool, we found that they were generated by AI an astonishing 80% of the time.
Conversely, Hive Moderation suggested a 57% chance of AI involvement.
To further substantiate our findings, we collaborated with the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU) through our collaboration with the Trusted Information Alliance (TIA). Their snapshot analysis used an “AI or Not” tool and produced AI an astounding 92% of the time.
This comprehensive investigation conclusively proves that this viral video was devised using artificial intelligence techniques.
