Utopai Studios has announced the second version of its AI video storytelling platform PAI, less than three months after launching the first version.
In March, the company introduced its generative video platform PAI, allowing users to play with videos at each stage of the creative process. The goal was to create visual stories without the need for a separate collection of AI tools, allowing users to generate, edit, and produce one-minute videos within PAI’s platform. It has the support of NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and James Harden, who invested in the company through his production company Creative7 and joined Utopi as a strategic partner. In April, Harden created a PAI animated short based on his beard.
PAI currently generates $11 million in annual recurring revenue, according to the company. Utopai targets marketing agencies and creators looking to produce their own video content. The company said the new version improves the PAI user experience through new creative agents, voice input, and new generation features. This comes amid a wave of companies looking to leverage generated AI video, including Google, Kling AI, and Runway AI.
PAI 2.0 includes rapid variant generation for videos, allowing users to generate 2×2 keyframes for every 15-second video segment and create videos natively in unlimited cinematic 4K, allowing users to generate long-form videos that flow naturally.
“Our goal with PAI 2.0 is to help facilitate the ‘Claude Code moment’ of the media generation,” Zijian He, Utopai’s chief scientific officer, said in a statement. “True filmmaking requires more than simply producing fast, independent clips. PAI 2.0 is designed to address the fundamental challenges of feature film storytelling by preserving narrative context, maintaining consistency across extended sequences, and giving creators more control over the creative process.”

PAI 2.0 is divided into two creation modes: Easy mode and Pro mode. Easy mode allows users to move through the creative process, from video planning to storyboarding to producing the finished product. Pro mode users can access the workspace platform Canvas to organize and edit videos from one specific location. Each version offers different levels of creative control, with Pro mode users able to edit very specific story details and quickly regenerate the video within the Canvas workspace.
Existing PAI users can migrate to the new version at a reduced subscription rate before PAI 1.0 expires on July 2nd. The company plans to introduce monthly and annual plans for PAI 2.0, along with customized plans for businesses.
Mountain View, California-based Utopai Studios was co-founded in 2022 by CEO Cecilia Shen, who previously worked as an AI solutions engineer at X, Moonshot Factory (formerly Google X), He and chief technology officer Jie Yang.
