I was recently sitting on my Masters' Exams in International Politics, and those were the most difficult I've ever faced.

Remote lecture from me Personal computer I was troubled by network failures and an unstable learning management system. The lack of physical classes to promote interactions made it worse.

It blocked direct access to instructors who were already tired of students who were endlessly ringing their phones with the same explanation. So I was left to break down complex theories myself, almost with guidance.

Notebooklm was probably a lifesaver at the time. I've heard about it before, but I've dismissed it as another basic note-taking tool that is not very different from Gemini or ChatGpt.

Surprisingly, the interactive beta mode actually makes the uploaded file possible. It turns them into live podcasts. There, two voices pass through your material.

You can interrupt the question and get explanations in a specific section. The interruptions are not as seamless as ChatGpt or Gemini's live modes. You need to press the button to cut.

But again, it doesn't just mean you're shaking your questions and interrupting your tutor, but it also reflects the true classroom dynamics. Instead, raise your hands and wait. It's enough to keep the flow out of line, but it gives you plenty of response to make the dialogue feel more comprehensive.

Enhancing repetitive memories is a hack

And I'm not talking about stuffing

Packing is an act that most students commit crimes, and I myself have included it. I reread the same page late at night. I felt productive because I was busy, but the outcome was temporary.

The problem is that it recognizes words on the page because it leans heavily towards recognition. However, they don't get any direct pressure in front of you and disappear in the exam room.

Notebooklm encourages positive engagement, which is effective.

I paraphrase the secret passages into spoken dialogue with AI, and it converts them into auditory input. Next, we revisit key points in the conversation and return to the same idea from multiple angles.

There is no dry explanation in the conversation. His voice is light and humorous. They jokingly slipped in, and the process didn't feel like a rigorous lecture. It was easy to remember the concept when they were tied to laughter.

Notebooklm is powered by Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash. This is a thinking model optimized to infer and unfold concepts in layered detail. It now works for my benefit.

All students struggle differently and have different paces of learning. I have always been a slow learner who needed explanations in the simplest possible terms.

The inhuman strength of Notebooklm is that it does not give you any sense of impatience in the process. It is not bound by the limits of human emotions and attention. Otherwise, it becomes a problem in the crowded lecture hall and clock.

One of the ways I love to use it is to start a discussion. You can't provide a strong opinion, but it tries to inject a focus point that will make you think hard.

We once discussed what research actually means and pointed out how there is a slippery definition. Sometimes, a single phrase cannot capture many aspects of the principle.

Occasionally I throw my own rebuttals and notebook lum tries to fix them with analogy. It's not always consistent and the model mostly agrees with me.

Still, I like the fact that it is left to adjust the contradictions based on the facts it gives.

Notebooklm is a research crutch recommended for overwhelmed graduate students. You can easily organize your transcripts for messy tasks and summarise bloated YouTube tutorials.
